The biggest thing BIG companies have over Us isn't their money...

(read time: 2min) What Sir Isaac Newton can teach us about Brand

Hi folks! šŸ‘‹ Doug here,

Before we jump in I just have to say THANK YOU!
This is the first issue of The Empowered Brand newsletter. If you are reading this it means you were around when I was just figuring this newsletter stuff out.
It means a lot to me. Thank you.

Today’s Big Thought:
Learn from the BIG players.

Seeing that my twitter handle is Doug | Brand Strategies, and this is the first issue of The Empowered Brand… it’s worth a quick level set on how I view ā€œBrandā€. I'll do my best to keep this origin story stuff brief.

My content approaches ā€œBrandā€ from a slightly different angle of attack than most. For example, I know many BRILLIANT people who focus on brand from a ā€œdesignā€ perspective. They are absolutely correct that your visual presentation can make or break you. But brand is more than just design.

Please understand… I LOVE great design.
I STUDY & ADMIRE design that is in alignment with a Brand’s values, purpose, and voice. But I do not claim to be a designer.

My view of brand is a little more ā€œunder the hoodā€.
My approach to brand is fundamental and wholistic.

For example: I consider sales methodology to be a pillar of Brand.
I don’t think enough people do. For me, Brand is about WHO your Brand portrays itself to be in relation to how it actually shows up in the world. How you sell is at the very heart of how you show up.

Which brings us back to today’s big thought. Learn from the BIG players.

I’ve spent a career helping sales folks close deals. I’ve worked along side hundreds of sales executives, and with at least as many brands.

And there were HUNDREDS of me.
THOUSANDS of sales reps.

Teams of HUNDREDS existed just to continually mine that pool of people for what works and train everyone else on it.

Big companies LEARN very quickly.

I can share those learnings, but it will be up to you to consider and apply them.

I may use an example of a consulting engagement, or a software launch, or an automated marketing campaign… these are all things we do at work, and help our customers do.

But the lesson for us HERE, is often deeper than the tactic or any specific context. Let’s take everything we can from the scaled learning of others. We don’t have to do the exact same thing to apply the principles of success.

Brand is a fancy word for reputation.
How you show up. How you Sell. How you Deliver. THAT is your Brand.
It’s an everyday thing.

I hope you’re on board. If so, we’re gonna geek out on Brand!
I am really looking forward to sharing more in upcoming issues.
Thank you, again, for being here.
